历史语言学文章选读(陈忠敏)

印欧语(Indo-European language family)有非常丰富的古代文献资料,而且时间相当古
老,比较重要的语族(Indo-Iranian, Greek, Anatolian, Italic)都有公元前的拼音文
献。公元前四世纪Panini对古典梵文精妙绝伦的描写更是十九世纪比较语言学家研究印欧
语历史的基石。这些优势是任何其他语系所不能比拟的。所以有人认为历史语言学的基本
理论和方法诞生于十九世纪的印欧语研究也绝非偶然。二十世纪三、四十年代以后,历史
语言学的研究中心从欧洲转移到北美,人们的语言研究视野也大为扩大,从有悠久文献记
录的印欧语,扩展到无文字记录的语言。人们对源自于印欧语研究的基本理论和方法也随
之进行了修正和补充。笔者受友人的建议和怂恿列出一些文章,希望能从中看出历史语言
学理论和方法的演变,也希望能对汉语史研究有所启迪。笔者能力有限,选出的文章也难
免有自己的倾向性,不当之处请方家指正。
