硫磺

How do you say 硫磺 in your place? jiû-n̂g, liû-n̂g, liû-hông or others?

In Taiwan both liû-n̂g and liû-hông are heard. All three sounds are recorded in Douglas' Amoy Dictionary. In MacGowan's Dictionary of the Amoy Dialect of 1883, jiû-n̂g is the only form given under "sulphur". The first reference of it I can find is in Doty's Manual of the Amoy Dialect of 1853.

“硫磺”即款物件,佇咱漳州嘛是講做liû-ûiⁿ。

After further checking Douglas', it says it's liû-hûiⁿ in Zhangzhou. What an interesting thing! The problem is does the sound of "jiû" still exists in China? The same should be said of hûiⁿ.

I have the book itself. Mine is published by a bookstore in Taipei (南天書局). But the problem is how I should do to contribute it or show it to the public? That one comes with the supplement and makes a total of more than 900 pages. The quality of the print is not too good, so even if I try to photocopy it, the image quality won't be too good either. I can try to digitize some pages for you to see if the quality is good enough. Or if you want, I can try to buy one copy for you. The price should be around NT 1000 or less than that.
